Anosmia e disgeusia associados a Covid-19

Abstract

In 2019, with the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) or Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19), the World Health Organization (WHO) decreed a pandemic. Infection caused by Covid-19 is mainly characterized by dry cough, fever, tiredness, anosmia and dysgeusia. In the case of the Dental Surgeon who can work on oral diseases and changes that involve the oral cavity, he/she will be able to carry out procedures aimed at caring for patients affected by the virus. Thus, more scientific research on this topic became necessary. Thus, the aim of this work was to carry out a literature review on the anosmia and dysgeusia associated with Covid-19 and the role of the Dental Surgeon in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. The little scientific evidence available demonstrates that the conditions of anosmia and dysgeusia must be treated in a multidisciplinary way and that the dentist can act using laser therapy and acupuncture to stimulate the olfactory and gustatory return in their patients.
