Classificação das doenças periodontais 1999 versus 2017

Abstract

Visualizing the differences found in the manifestation of periodontal diseases (PD), a standardization was developed in the classification of diseases, in order to facilitate the diagnosis by the dental professional. The first classification appeared in 1989, being revised and improved by the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) in 1999, and finally, in 2017 the APP and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) revised and reformulated the classification, the most current being. The objective of this work is to illustrate in a didactic way the main changes between the 1999 classification and the current classification of periodontal diseases in an attempt to help the professionals' understanding to apply in clinical practice. The methodology used in this work was the bibliographic review, being the qualitative research of the descriptive type. Finally, conclude that the 2017 classification ended up repairing important flaws found in the previous classification, therefore, technology allows us to explore more and more the particularities of diseases and the factors that influence their development, progression, severity and treatment, thus allowing , a better application of knowledge in clinical practice.
