Problemas periodontais ocasionados pelo insucesso das lentes de contato: Relato de caso

Abstract

The success of dental treatment is linked to the planning, correct indication and skills of the professional. This study is aimed to report a clinical case on the failure of ceramic laminates from teeth 14 to 24 and their periodontal consequences such as overcontour, edema, gingival redness and bad smell. The ideal treatment suggested was to remove all the pieces and make new laminates, however the patient requested another alternative to keep the pieces in the mouth, since she was afraid of requiring endodontic treatment in the teeth in question, and aesthetics was not her main complaint. Therefore, it was suggested the removal of the overcontour of the facet through a porcelain wear in an open field surgery. Continuing with the patient's consent, the surgery was performed and it was discovered that some pieces were instilling the supracrestal distance beyond the overcontours. The distance recovery was obtained by means of osteotomy, then the pieces were regularized and finally the sutured flaps. Seven days after surgery, improvement in gingival health could be observed. However, aesthetics was affected due to exposure of the cementation line, but the patient reported being satisfied with the result. This work reinforced the importance of the dentist having knowledge of the basic principles and mastery of the technique of ceramic laminates, because the lack of these factors can lead to the failure of the procedure.
