Complicações e cuidados no pós-operatório de cirurgia ortognática

Abstract

The orthognathic surgery consists in a surgical procedure for the correction of facial and maxillomandibular irregularities, with an adequate dental positioning. This treatment involves a functional component, which aims to improve the chewing function, the speech and breathing, and an aesthetic component, which includes a better harmony and balance of the facial pattern. People with altered occlusion or poorly positioned maxilla and/or mandible may be benefitted by this surgery, because it is a delicate surgery and involving many muscles, bones and nerves, there are many factors which affect the frequency and the kind of complications, such as surgical location, surgical approach, clinical nature of the procedure, surgery duration, wound contamination, the patient’s mental strength, post-operatory care and the surgeon’s skill. When considering the mandible corrective surgery, the surgeons must bear in mind the prevention, considering the nature of the complication and its casual factors, having in sight how high the chances of complications are, the patient’s post-surgery is a primordial factor for obtaining a high quality and expected result in an orthognathic surgery, in order to obtain an optimal result, far from complications and with a calm postoperative we must make a correct planning of the treatment and guide the individuals so ideal and satisfactory are achieved.
