Escleroterapia em lesão vascular bucal: relato de caso

Abstract

The term hemangioma refers to a benign vascular lesion. It is more common in women and affects, more frequently, the head and neck region, thus totaling 60% of cases. It is an alteration in vessel development, characterized by the proliferation of blood vessels. Although it is a pathology that affects more the skin, hemangiomas can also occur in the oral cavity, and may affect the lips, the jugal mucosa and the tongue. These lesions commonly present as spots or nodules, and their color can vary from deep red to purple. The main problem that an oral hemangioma brings to a patient is to affect the aesthetics; however, in some cases it can interfere with chewing function and, depending on its location, if there is trauma, bleeding can occur. Treatments can vary from drug sclerotherapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, and even surgical excision. The correct diagnosis is essential to determine the best treatment for each case. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to report a case of a patient who presented two recurrences of a vascular lesion, which had been submitted to previous treatments with Ethamolin. Patient described interventions in the years 2012 and 2016. After four years, she attended for care with recurrence of the lesion. The treatment of choice was again application of Ethamolin and follow-up of the case.
