| Resumo: | Com o aumento da expectativa de vida, houve a necessidade do estudo e da compreensão sobre o envelhecer e suas características. O envelhecer resulta em inúmeras alterações fisiológicas e patológicas, entre estas temos as alterações do sistema vestibular e suas principais manifestações, a Tontura, a Vertigem e a Vertigem Postural Paroxística Benigna. O enfoque principal deste trabalho foi verificar os benefícios que a reabilitação vestibular traz aos idosos vestibulopatas, através do uso do protocolo de Cawthorne e Cooksey. Esse protocolo tem como objetivo a habituação dos sintomas vestibulares através das movimentações exercidas pelos olhos, cabeça e tronco. Com essa revisão concluímos que a reabilitação vestibular, além de ser acessível e fácil aplicabilidade, traz inúmeros benefícios quanto à diminuição dos sintomas, à melhora do equilíbrio e dos aspectos físicos e emocionais. Proporcionando assim, uma melhor qualidade de vida a estes idosos submetidos à realização da reabilitação vestibular. |
| Abstract: | With the increase of life expectancy, the need for study and understanding about aging and its characteristics increased. Aging brings to it numerous physiological and pathological changes, among these we have the alterations of the vestibular system and its main manifestations; vertigo and benign paroxysmal postural vertigo. The main focus of this study was to verify the benefits that vestibular rehabilitation brings to the elderly vestibulopathy through the use of the Cawthorne and Cooksey protocol. This protocol aims to accustom vestibular symptoms through the movements exerted by the eyes, head and trunk. With this review, we conclude that vestibular rehabilitation, in addition to being accessible and easy to apply, shows itself in a positive way, because it brings numerous benefits regarding the reduction of symptoms, the improvement of balance and physical and emotional aspects. Thus providing a better quality of life to these elderly who are submitted to vestibular rehabilitation. |
